A gentle path from age 2, each stage flowing into the next.
Our programme is play-based and guided by South Africa's National Curriculum Framework, across its six Early Learning and Development Areas. Classes follow the year your child turns a given age. For our January 2027 opening we welcome The Mist, The Rain, and The River, with The River as our pre-Grade R class and oldest group. The Ocean, our CAPS-aligned Grade R class, opens in 2028 for children turning 6.
A quick guide for 2027: The Mist is for children born in 2024, The Rain 2023, and The River 2022, our pre-Grade R year. Grade R (The Ocean) follows in 2028. Age is taken as at 30 June.
The school programme runs from 7:30 am to 3:00 pm, with optional aftercare until 5:30 pm. Lunch is served by the centre, and parents pack daily snacks. Here is a taste of what each class enjoys.
Gentle first days. Our youngest children settle in, feel safe, and explore the world with their senses. They engage in sensory and messy play, songs and simple rings, picture books, and gentle outdoor play, with lots of gentle one-on-one care and a good rest in the middle of the day.
Learning areas: Well-being, Identity and Belonging, Communication, and Creativity
Finding confidence. Busy, curious threes and fours spend their days playing, talking, and making friends. They engage in themed play-based activities, art and construction, imaginative role play, songs and stories, and plenty of active outdoor play, building language, confidence, and independence.
Learning areas: Communication, Identity and Belonging, Creativity, Exploring Mathematics, and Well-being
Learning together, and getting ready for Grade R. As our oldest group in 2027, The River is the pre-Grade R year. Children dive into learning through projects and questions, with early literacy and numeracy through play, science and discovery, building and creating, and rich conversation, while learning to work together and solve problems.
Learning areas: All six areas, with growing Communication, Exploring Mathematics, and Knowledge and Understanding of the World
Our Grade R class, opening in 2028. Children turning 6 enjoy a playful but purposeful day of shared reading, phonics and emergent writing, hands-on mathematics, life skills, and creative and discovery activities, following the CAPS curriculum and building the confidence they will need for Grade 1.
Learning areas: CAPS Grade R: Home Language, Mathematics, and Life Skills, building on the six early learning areas
Our rooms are ready and waiting, each with its own gentle character.
A growing range of optional extra-murals runs at various times during the week, so enrichment fits easily into your child's day.
Please note: extra-murals are optional and at an additional cost. Their costs are confirmed at the start of each school term, at sign-up, and the activities on offer may change from time to time. We will always confirm the current programme with families.
